Places

For all you potential franchise wanna-be’s out there (in Denmark): Please bring this (skip the intro) Canadian concept to Copenhagen (preferably in a Scandinavian design ;-) . It amazing how rare decent cafes featuring both proper wifi, good coffee, a no smoke environment and a calm atmosphere are.

PS. In general, I’m more than happy to receive tips on your favorite working cafe as I often have the need to work or meet somewhere in town but hate acknowledging that the wifi is one of the totally lame payment versions when I’ve already ordered or standing out in the rain to test it.

On what has become almost a tradition of curiously detouring when going home from meetings in town, I came by the relatively new concept-lifestyle-boutique Canvas at Fælledvej in Copenhagen today. Attracted by an intriguing, highly pixelated picture (of what turned out to be hard core porn) by the talented Danish artist Jacob Fuglsang Mikkelsen I went inside to find lots of nice clothes, art and design books, music, more splendid paintings by Fuglsang and some very friendly and enthusiastic owners. I ended up in the back of the shop talking to the owners about trends, cool-hunting, bying art, the incoming new lines of clothes, upcoming events and a lot more. They’re apparently going to feature selected boose for sale, DJ in residence, regular exhibitions, happenings and promotion parties. A very nice stop indeed. I’m looking forward to follow the development of Canvas. Check out Jacob Fuglsang Mikkelsen: http://www.jayfugmik.com/

Picking up my tickets for Friday’s concert with Deadbeat and other niceties at Culture Box I finally had the chance to visit Amoeba. The combination of record-shop, cafe/bar and cool hang-around spot with powerful WiFi is surely seen before, and even if the place still leaves a little to desire (in terms of variety and novelty of music, prices) it is still a long missed place in Copenhagen. Reminds one of the glory days of Brooklyn….. I’ll sure put it on my mandatory hype list for a period. So, please join in and go spread the word to make sure this place matures and stays in the heart of Copenhagen. Start by visting: http://www.ameobarecordshop.dk/
